Artificial Intelligence Vs Human Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence Vs Human Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a term used to describe machine-proven "intelligence." AI programs, such as reasoning, problem solving and learning, can imitate or imitate cognitive behaviours or traits associated with human intelligence.

It is quick to complain nowadays about how artificial intelligence is becoming much better known than human intelligence. We’re talking about AI, which does almost half of our tasks on just one order, i.e. smart virtual assistant, self-driving cars, chatbots, and so on! AI is invading new territories, tasks and abilities everywhere you look. But is comparing it with AI fair to the human mind?

The question emerges from the emerging technical advancement: what is (or would be) left for humans to do? Where should humans fit in the equation if robots and machines will do our jobs in the future, the very same way we do them or even better? Well, comparing the human mind with artificial intelligence is incorrect. And both of these are entirely different things, even though sometimes their roles overlap. Although the analysis of data is fine for artificial intelligence, human intelligence is great for abstract thought.

Artificial Intelligence is a Computer Science branch that focuses on the development of smart machines capable of performing a wide variety of tasks that normally involve human intelligence and cognition. Human Intelligence refers to the intellectual capacity of human beings that enables us to think, learn from diverse experiences, interpret complex concepts, implement logic and reason, solve problems in mathematics, identify patterns, make inferences and decisions, recall information, and interact with fellow human beings.

The science of creating smarter and more intelligent human-like computers, Artificial Intelligence(AI), has triggered an unavoidable Artificial Intelligence vs Human Intelligence debate. In reality, algorithms for Machine Learning(ML) and Deep Learning(DL) are designed to make machines learn about themselves and make decisions just as we humans do. But are we overlooking the effect of AI takeovers on potential jobs in an effort to make smarter machines?

Thinking in the abstract, thinking critically, or moving information from one field to another is where AI falls short. Human beings are significantly inferior to AI when it comes to processing data. An AI algorithm can recognize one million images within the time it takes for a human to recognize and mark an image. However, based on intuition, common sense and scarce knowledge, humans can make abstract decisions. At a very young age, a human child learns to manage stuff. For an AI algorithm, the same task takes hundreds of years of training to execute. Humans, with all the innovations that have ushered in the age of artificial intelligence, will create new things. AI can only take information, compare it, construct new combinations and presentations, and forecast patterns on the basis of previous sequences.

Humans can sense, dream, imagine. Selfless or selfish, they may be. They're capable of loving and hate, to deceive, to forget, to misinterpret the truth. And in logical or irrational ways, all of those feelings will affect their decisions. AI is, at its heart, tiny electricity bursts that run through billions of lifeless circuits.

AI and human intelligence complement one another, compensating for the limitations of each other. They will carry out things together that neither of them could have done independently. AI's future will be governed primarily by human skills.

Humans will create the future, not robots.

INTEGRITY OR QUICK MONEY?

INTEGRITY OR QUICK MONEY?

Who is to decide what is ethical and what is not? As complicated as this question sounds, the answer is quite plain and simple. One is always aware of what their conscience permits and what it forbids. Our conscience does its job pretty gracefully but to adhere or to ignore is our call. Today, the scenarios that exist in the world of business are quite complicated with our heart and values on one side of the scale and money on the other. The question is, can both these sides weigh equally?

Business conducted with right morals can consume more time in fetching profits. But in the long run, following the right course of action is what keeps the business machines running, with customer trust and loyalty of employees acting as the fuel. Taking a shortcut may seem convenient and alluring at first. However, the satisfaction gained without any inputs of hard work might be different from what you initially expected. You can tuck your business under profits and put on a show on the exterior but you cannot cheat your own self and your virtues. The guilt that follows also narrates stories of self-reflection. The disappointment of not being able to give back starts kicking in.

Businesses have certain responsibilities towards the society. Going about doing business without malice in your heart is what is expected. Ultimately, it’s upto you to decide what makes you sleep peacefully at night. Is it the material pleasures or food for your soul?

Purpose Over Profit!

Purpose Over Profit!

Ethics concern an individual’s moral judgement about right and wrong. The word Ethics is derived from the Greek Word ‘Ethos’ which translates to ‘Character’. It is true that morals and values differs for an individual. In today’s world, there is often a conflict between business and ethics. Ethics are usually bound and nurtured by religion, family values, etc. Such forms cannot work well in business where you are expected to be professional and practical.

When people are pressurized to do things, they tend to ignore ethics. Many unethical things are done in well-known companies, but they never get highlighted, even if they are revealed, for some time company will face troubles in its shares and profits but eventually things get back to normal.

The answer lies between Leadership.

Businesses cannot run effectively in the long run if they are not led by an ethical leader. Being Ethical is not a choice in a business, you cannot choose as to when to be ethical. The everyday decisions in business need to be ethical. With increasing media exposure, businesses have no choice but to ensure that each and every individual working in the company has ethical standards.

I think, there has to be a balance between being ethical and unethical. The intensity of both stances should be at nominal level. Many companies are unethical with respect to environment and safety of its employees though they are running. Because at the end of the day the profit matters the most for them. There’s nothing wrong in making profit but making profit by unethical means could cost a lot of people harm. Being ethical in business creates a sense of responsibility towards society. We all want to make quick money but being ethical takes a toll on you.

“EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AT WORKPLACE”

Once seen as a topic too taboo to touch in corporate cultures, Emotional intelligence (EQ) is now in the minds of almost every leader and organization who is attempting to be creative, particularly when newly divided workplaces have shifted into uncertain home office circumstances. Previously, on-the-job emotions were seen as counterproductive and perhaps a hindrance to success and discipline. Today's companies and their executives understand that emotional intelligence is a must-have to keep workers satisfied and motivated, whether working from the kitchen table or the workplace, while at the same time driving market outcomes.

Emotional intelligence (also known as the 'emotional quotient' or EQ) was ranked sixth in the World Economic Forum's ranking of the top 10 qualities that workers would need to learn in order to succeed in the workplace of the future.

So, what's the EQ? How does this affect your success at work and your ability to communicate with teams and peers, and what effect can it have on your physical and emotional well-being?

EQ refers to the capability of someone to experience, understand and control their own thoughts and emotions.

Emotionally intelligent people are much more likely to excel at jobs. Consider Daniel Goleman's five foundations of emotional intelligence and how important these qualities are to a professional:

  • Self-awareness – the capacity to know and understand your moods and feelings, and how they affect others.
  • Self-regulation – the capacity to regulate urges and moods and to deliberate before acting
  • Internal (or intrinsic) motivation – to be inspired to achieve targets for personal purposes rather than incentives of any kind (the opposite is external motivation)
  • Empathy – the capacity to consider and appreciate the motives of others that are necessary for creating and leading teams to succeed.
  • Social skills – the capacity to maintain partnerships and network

Hiring managers said that they preferred the employee's EQ above their IQ. They also said that they would be most likely to hire an individual of high emotional intelligence. They also said they would not recruit an applicant with a high IQ and a low EQ.

Just as it is important to recruit new employees with emotional intelligence, it is crucial for executives and other business leaders to act in emotionally intelligent ways to fulfil the demands of today's employees. Some older employees have begun their careers in the same businesses from which they have retired. For many of the older generations, employment has merely been used as a means for gaining money. Today, though, most employees expect more of their careers than just a salary. Younger generations have seen that the conventional perspective has not always played out, as they have watched their faithful older peers struggle with increasing unemployment and career disappointments.

Setting Emotional Intelligence Examples at Work

There are several benefits of emotional intelligence at work, and organizations that tap into the strength of emotional intelligence will set themselves apart from their competitors. Some strategies are-

  1. Prioritizing Emotional Intelligence- Contrary to what past generations' workers may have assumed, people can't toggle off their feelings when they go to work—nor should they! The key for business leaders is to rid themselves of preconceived ideas about what the manager is expected to do, and to view any situation from an emotional intelligence viewpoint. Stopping your feet and shouting at workers to work faster can lead to better short-term work outcomes, but the long-term consequences would almost definitely be catastrophic. Employees nowadays don't really expect their boss to be their best friend, but they want to have a relationship of confidence and respect. When they don't like it, they're going to quit for a boss who gives it to them. But a word of warning: evidence suggests that a person with more emotional intelligence is not necessarily more beneficial. In other words, when you assess someone's credentials for a specific job, emotional maturity is only one of several considerations.

Find this rule of thumb:

Skill + Work Ethics + Emotional Intelligence = Good Professional.

  1. To evolve a culture that promotes emotional intelligence- Like any skill, emotional intelligence takes practice. Organizations can also establish a community in which staff and administrators can exercise and develop their emotional intelligence. The first step is to show your workers that the company is taking care of them. People already understand the reasoning behind why you want them to function well: individual success leads to organizational success. Stay at that stage when you get help on an interpersonal level. If you resort to issuing orders after appealing to workers' feelings, then the emotional groundwork you've put in comes off as manipulation instead of care. Part of true emotional intelligence requires being true, and a true example of emotional intelligence is far more motivating than words alone.

In order for emotional intelligence to be successful, you have to start with yourself. You can't distil or strengthen the well-being, improvement and sense of self of someone without first knowing how you function on an emotional basis. What separates leaders is typically their level of interpersonal maturity, and it is those qualities that help to create a more successful workplace. We live in an era where, due to technology, we can gain certificates in any number of subjects to improve our careers, but unfortunately, we can't earn one in emotional intelligence. This is something we need to discuss as people, to identify it as important, to choose to strengthen it and to continue working on it—probably for the remainder of our lives. Yet the benefits are worth it as we become happier employers, better spouses, and better individuals.

DISCRIMINATION: A CLOAKED REALITY

DISCRIMINATION: A CLOAKED REALITY

The mere fact that many men and women had to lose their lives to make people realize that racism based on caste, colour, gender exists sends shivers down my spine. Be it George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rohith Vemula, Hathras case victim, and many others.

If people perceive democracy as a license to do every unfair thing, democracy is a myth. It has been 73 years since India was declared independent. But pondering upon it, are the people in India independent?        In India, people are unknowingly casteist when they use words that are casteist in nature because of a lack of knowledge, conditioning, and the environment at home. It's true when they say 'Change begins at home' because unless we end the everyday classism and casteism that we have normalized by way of having different utensils at home for domestic workers, making them sit on the floors, giving the guards and workers stale food, assuming people's class and caste-based on their dialect, choosing friends only after knowing their background, classism and casteism won't end.

Article 46 of the Constitution says, “The State shall promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the people, and, in particular, of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, and shall protect them from social injustice and all forms of exploitation.” Does this hold any value to the people who continue to oppress them? They are tied to societal fetters. One of the many ways in which they make the Dalits question their reality and social outlook is gaslighting. There has been a plethora of instances where the Dalits have been treated unlike humans, denied opportunities, and have been insulted for belonging to a particular caste. The case of Rohith Vemula is no new news to anyone. “My birth is a fatal accident”, is what the Dalit student pursuing a Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad wrote in his suicide note. Elitism has always had a refuge in the lives of Indians. People in India are also Islamophobic and indulge in activities that only spread hate and more oppression among communities. Muslims are not respected and have to face anti-muslim remarks and hate speeches. Not only this, discrimination based on colour and gender are also quite prevalent. Prejudicial attitudes towards the sex of an individual have existed for generations. Most cases have women at the receiving end of such attitudes. There still exists the practice of killing a girl child as soon as she takes birth, putting a stop to the education of a girl child, lack of opportunities, casual sexism, etc. Male supremacy has always held women down.

Oppression has been going on for decades and is now a reality. Change has to take place at the ground level to ensure that discrimination does not lead to violence and eventually to cold-blooded murder. It's time we educate ourselves, start introspecting, and start the change from us to create a non-biased society that will not preserve discrimination, inequalities, and violent atrocities.

Everyone deserves the taste of liberalism.
