Vivekanand PGDM Alumni Review – Ms. Lichen Sequeira’s Journey from Vivekanand PGDM Classroom to Private Equity Success

Ms. Lichen Sequeira (PGDM Batch 2017–2019) is currently working as a Senior Analyst – Private Equity at Amherst India Pvt Ltd. She reflects on how her PGDM journey shaped her learning and prepared her for a career in finance.

Which part of the PGDM journey at Vivekanand influenced you the most and why?
Looking back, the second year of my PGDM journey was the most impactful. By this stage, the learning became more focused and specialized, especially in finance and analytics. The coursework allowed me to dive deeper into my areas of interest and clearly connect classroom concepts with real-world applications. The combination of rigorous curriculum, projects, and case studies gave me the clarity and direction I needed to confidently pursue a career in private equity.

How did Vivekanand prepare you for real-world challenges in your career?
One of the program’s biggest strengths was its industry-relevant curriculum. Financial analytics, in particular, was a game-changer. It went beyond textbook learning and emphasized practical application, giving me exposure to real data and business scenarios. This approach helped me interpret numbers, analyze financial patterns, and present insights effectively. The program also strengthened my critical thinking, adaptability, and decision-making skills—qualities essential in the fast-paced world of private equity.

How did the faculty, placements, or industry exposure support your journey?
The faculty I worked with brought a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the classroom. Their mentorship helped me approach challenges differently and refine my analytical skills.

Placement support was another highlight. The team conducted resume-building workshops, mock interviews, and one-on-one mentoring, which gave me the confidence to navigate the recruitment process effectively.

Industry exposure further enriched my journey. Guest lectures, corporate interactions, and hands-on projects bridged the gap between theory and practice, ensuring I was fully prepared for the final interview and my role at Amherst India.

What are your top 3 reasons to recommend Vivekanand to future students?
If I were to recommend the PGDM program, I’d highlight three things. First, the faculty—mentors who make complex concepts clear and practical. Second, the workshops, seminars, and inter-college competitions, which encourage students to step out of their comfort zones and sharpen their skills. Third, the placement team, led by Arun Sir, whose guidance helps students confidently face recruiters and succeed in the corporate world.

For me, the PGDM program provided not just academic knowledge but also the confidence and practical exposure needed to thrive in my career.
